The Monumental Murano Art Glass Scavo Vase by Seguso Vetri d'Arte is a stunning work of art that embodies the exquisite craftsmanship of the Italian glassmaking tradition. Dating to the last quarter of the 20th century, this elegant vase is an extraordinary example of the Scavo technique that replicates the look and feel of ancient Roman archaeological glass.
Measuring a massive 14 inches tall, 12 inches wide, and 6 inches in depth, this vase is an exceptionally rare size, making it a one-of-a-kind piece that would be a standout addition to any home or office collection.
The Scavo technique involves the dispersion of several powders, including carbonates, nitrates, talc, silica, and more, onto the glass surface during manufacturing. The object is then heated up to 800 degrees Celsius, which creates a unique effect of transparency and color. A second heating creates an extraordinary surface texture, imitating ancient objects found in archaeological excavations.
The Scavo technique was first introduced by Alfredo Barbini and Gino Cenedese in the 1950s, and later in the 1970s, Seguso Vetri d'Arte took up the technique in a series that is most often attributed to Giovanni Patrini. The old world forms of this vase are a testament to the exceptional talent of the artisans who created it, and it is sure to make an important and elegant statement piece of glass in any collection. less
