The chairs were upholstered previously which left tape marks and signs of discoloration (see photos for examples). There is surface rust on the original 'X' base (see photos for examples). The shock mounts appear to be original to the chairs (see photos for examples). The original domes of silence are still intact with some minor signs of rust on a few of them (see photos for examples). More photos can be provided upon request. less

This is the first … more A 1950 SAX fiberglass shell chair in parchment designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Zenith. This is the first generation of the famous Eames fiberglass shell chairs with rope edge. It also features the 'X' base which was released in 1950 and then replaced in 1954 with the 'H' base. When the first generation was released, there were 3 size options (DAX, SAX, LAX). The SAX (Standard Arm X Base Chair) was discontinued in 1953 to simplify the size options.

Both chairs have a distinct square where the original maker's mark was placed. One of the stickers is more intact than the other. The original upholstery tags were salvaged but not photographed. less
