An exquisite 19th-century portrait of a Victorian woman on canvas, wearing a transparent blouse with a finely detailed collar adornment, under a black v-neck sweater. The warm glow over her face brilliantly contrasts the darker background, pronouncing her strong features and soft gaze.
Very highly skilled painting signed and dated on the reversed side; the signature/artist is indistinguishable. Professionally mounted in a gilded wooden frame.
Upon our search, we found a striking resemblance between the woman depicted in the painting and Eleanora Elizabeth O'Neale, wife of James Madison Cutts, and sister of the infamous Rose O'Neal Greenhow.
