Endre László Szász for hollohaza porcelain violin, Hungary 1979-1980. A Hungarian porcelain violin on a round stand with a brown painted scene on the front of grapes and vines and on the back painted a female head with bird, sun, surrounded by grape vines and finished with goldpaint. Signed by Endre László Szász. Endre László Szász was a Hungarian painter, illustrator, printmaker, printmaker, muralist, production designer and ceramics decorator. He described himself as a folkloric surrealist. Marked with the logo of the Hungarian Hollohaza manufactory (used 1979-1980) was established in 1777 as glassworks. This situated in Northeastern Hungary manufactory was owned in 1831 by count Mihály Károlyi. He decided to turn it into ceramic manufactory. Real development of the firm came in 1857. Ferenc Istvany turned it into a real manufacturing facility but it still produced folk style decorated porcelain for simple people. Production was stopped because of the World War I and restarted in 1923. In 1939 the factory was taken over by Karoly Szakmary. He decided to modernize technically manufactory as well as designs of porcelain products. In 1948 the factory was nationalized by new communist government. For a few years Hollohazi Porcelain manufactured only industrial porcelain insulators. New artistic pieces appeared only in 1957. In 1972 build was a completely new factory. The measurement is 66,5 cm high, 20,5 cm wide and the depth is 7 cm. The base is 13,5 cm diagonal (1 inch = 2, 54 cm). The weight is approx 2 kilos. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
