A very elegant late 19th century mirror bought in Belgium, featuring an elaborate wood and plasterwork surround with faded paint wood finish, and a desirable, lightly foxed glass mirror with a bright reflection.
The floral crest is made from wire and gesso and the framework adorned in
lovely painted plaster decoration comprising of delicate flowers, Fleur-de-lis, scrolling acanthus leaf embellishments and rope edge. The greens, greys, yellows, blues and red muted tones of this mirror enable it to fit in with all kinds of décor - a large statement piece and a rare decorative find.
To the back there is a strong wire for hanging, and evidence of antique paper ticking with period advertising from Bruxelles. There are areas of loss to the framework, which in my opinion only adds to its character. The piece is very stable and shows an honest patina. This piece is designed in the style of the selected designer and/or manufacturer
