Originally called "Arabesque" in the UK and Europe, the "Samarkand" pattern was designed by Gill Pemberton in 1964 and remains … more Originally called "Arabesque" in the UK and Europe, the "Samarkand" pattern was designed by Gill Pemberton in 1964 and remains one of the more famous of the discontinued patterns created by Denby Pottery since it was discontinued as of 1981.

This is a set of three (3) vintage stoneware pieces that include a creamer, a casserole pot with lid, and what is known as a "Grandmug" coffee cup, perfect for using as decorative accessories on a kitchen shelf, or for serving sugar, cream, and a double-dose of tea, or for creating floral arrangements.

Inspired by a trip to Russia, Pemberton created "Samarkand" in earth tones applying yellow, brown, and clay red circles all around the wares each painted on a dark brown background.

The coffee mug measures 4 3/4" in width from rim to handle, is 3 1/8" in diameter on its flat bottom, has a mouth that is 3" in diameter, and is 5 3/8" in height.

The creamer measures 3 1/8" in width, 2 1/4" in diameter, and 4" in height.

The 1-Quart Covered casserole measures 5 3/4" in width and 4" in height with its lid (and 3 1/2" without it), and can just as well double as a sugar bowl with lid. less
