A wonderful French 1925-1930 art deco lamp in metal and pressed glass depicting a dancer with cymbals done a pure art deco style popular in the late 20s. The lamp was designed by the sculptor Émile Grégoire (1871-1948). The glass shade was made for Gregoire by Carillo. Carillo was a Paris France based Spanish designer of glassware, mainly vases. His products were produced by a small glass factory in Normandy and sold by the Parisian company Luminax specialized in luxury goods in glass and porcelain. The lamp was made for Grégoire in a very small edition. And is a rare find. In the mid 30s the large lighting firm Hettier et Vincent bought the rights to produce this model. But some changes were made to make it possible to make it in higher volumes. The Carillo made shade was perhaps too expensive or Carillo could not produce it in high enough quantities. Either way Hettier & Vincent made the metal base with a smaller hole in the centre and used a standard globe made by EJG the large glass factory of Jean Gauthier. The initial Grégoire edition has a "Gregoire made in France" mark on the thigh of the dancing lady. Where the Hettier et Vincent made re-edition has the signature Gregoire on the sole of the foot resting on the glass shade. This HetV version is represented in one of the old Hettier et Vincent product catalogs (see last picture).
The lamp is in good condition. The original patina has almost disappeared. Some traces of gold and silver paint still show. The lamp has a height of 49,3 cm (19,4 inches). It is rewired with stylish cloth covered twisted cord and holds an American candelabra base socket and US 2-prong plug.
