Antique 10.5" Decorative Plate
Berries, Embossed Rim, Gold Trim (c. 1900)
This listing is for a very pretty antique decorative serving plate made by the Sevres China Company of East Liverpool, Ohio, dating circa 1900-1908. It measures 10.5 inches wide across the widest part of the embossed rim. The center design is richly decorated with colorful berry decals (I believe either blackberries or dewberries)with gold verge and gold trim on the scalloped embossed rim. The background is a very clean, solid white high glaze.
This plate is in good to very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, or crazing. The decal design shows a bit of scratching and wear on the berries (see closeup photos), and a bit of wear to the gold trim. The only flaw I can see is a dark smudge in the white glaze, which appears to be under-glaze and original to manufacture (see closeup photo with red arrow).
This large plate masters turn-of-the-century marketing! There is a green fleur-de-lis mark with the name "Sèvres" even though it's from East Liverpool, Ohio. Sevres was in business for only 8 years, but made some really lovely pieces.
Please note that some of the pictures may have been taken with flash, others were in natural light, which is why the piece may look lighter or darker or have white spots in the photos. Also, the price includes USPS Priority Delivery (with insurance) to the continental US. less
