Rabari Shawl :
Shawl made out of Local Sheep wool handspun yarn in vegetable dyes made with the traditional techniques using motifs that are traditional & contemporary to create a new product, different from the products being currently made by the weavers in Kutch and also distinct from shawls made in other parts of India. rabari community was use this shawl in their traditional marriage that red color shows us. as a cattle herder they like camel and i use here camel motif in shawl. In Indian folk song the bridegroom is called as a peacock. So I make peacock motif here in shawl.
The shawl has been designed as an understated elegant creation different from shawls being made in the market. Different from the tradition of Kutchhi weaves, which has been till now a coarser weave, this piece has been created using thinner counts to make it appropriate for a multipurpose use. This innovation has taken lot of concentration by me and is a special effort in a new direction for the weaves of Kutch, which has been facing stagnation in the market in last few years, due to saturated product range and designs.
It took me around 25 days to complete this piece right from the stage of conceptualization, visualization, preparing the yarns, dyeing, setting the loom, creating the intricate patterns while weaving, with break downs in between, which really tested the patience of me and brought this wonderful shawl in its true color.
This Shawl has multipurpose use, you can use it as a Drape in winter, use as a Throw, Runner it will also looks beautiful on your bedroom or couch in drawing room.
