This is a Coco de Mer seed pod mounted as a vase on a wood plinth. It comes from the Lodoicea tree. Commonly known as the "Sea Coconut" (Coco de Mer), the Lodoicea is a monotypic species of palm that grows ONLY on the islands of Praslin and Curieuse in the Seychelles Archipelago in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa. Famous for its size, its nut and "double coconut" seed pod is the largest and heaviest seed of any currently known plant on earth. The vase is 11" wide, 11" tall and 6" deep.
