Early 20th century framed print on board with gel embellishment reproduction of Thomas Sully’s Major John Biddle (1881). This is a great art piece for the US historian, history buff or Americana collector, particularly for someone with family tracing back to Detroit, MI.
The original oil on canvas is displayed in the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Major John Biddle (1859 – 1936) was an American military officer, politician, and businessman from Detroit who served as a delegate to the US Congress as the speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives, and as mayor of Detroit. Original oil painting was done by Thomas Sully known for his portraits of national political leaders such as United States presidents Thomas Jefferson, John Quincy Adams, and Andrew Jackson, Revolutionary War hero General Marquis de Lafayette.
