- In 1793 an unusual double wedding took place. 18-year-old Princess Luise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz married the Crown Prince of Prussia, Friedrich … more In 1793 an unusual double wedding took place. 18-year-old Princess Luise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz married the Crown Prince of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm III, and 16-year-old Friederike married his younger brother Louis. Reason for Joh. Gottfried Schadow to create this graceful sculpture of the two sisters. The marble group of the Prussian princesses, the first life-size double statue of Classicism, is the most graceful example of Schadow's classic-ideal and lifelike style, which set the trend for the 19th century.
