Description: Antique French field glasses from the early 20thC. Leather wrapped with slender brass rings around the barrels. They appear to … more Antique French field glasses from the early 20thC. Leather wrapped with slender brass rings around the barrels. They appear to have been fabricated by the prestigious optical firm, Lemaire Paris, and are marked as such on one eye piece; the other being marked by the retailer selling them in Kansas City, MO. (company name is illegible)

The Lemaire firm was founded by Armand Lemaire at 22 & 26 rue Oberkamf, Paris in 1846. It became a leading, internationally renown fabricator of optical equipment and operated until 1955. Humorously, the term jumelles, as binoculars are known in France, is directly translated as "twin girls".
