A fascinating view from the south side of the Thames looking across towards Sir Christopher Wren’s St. Magnus Church with The Monument just behind.
A lady and gentlemen descend the steps to board a waiting lighter moored below, a liveried waterman beckons to them, their goods carried by a young boy. A fine guild barge turns in the water beneath the first arch.

Titled ‘'London Bridge From the upper landing of the Steps near Tooley Street'

This wonderful etching is plate nine in a series of twelve that were drawn and etched by the draughtsman, illustrator and engraver Edward William Cooke (1811 - 1880), one of England's most prominent artists at that time.

The series was titled “ Views Of The Old And New London Bridges with Scientific And Historical Notices Of The Two Bridges”.
A very clean and sharp impression printed using the chine-collé technique with beautiful hand colouring.
