This book traces the factory's history and presents a hundred reproductions of original plates and sketches from the 1920s. Covering the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, this book relates the relations between Charles Schneider and Emile Gallé or Daum in Nancy. Also shown are the main signatures and marks for the pieces' identification.
Charles Schneider, 1881-1953, is a French master glassmaker of Art Deco, the pupil of Daum in Nancy, and creator of the glassware label Le Verre français, with his brother Ernest Schneider, 1877-1937.
Le Verre Français was, in the years 1920-1903, the largest art glassworks in Europe. A large majority of the creations of this period, very marked by the school of Nancy, are due to Charles Schneider.
Past fashion, Art Nouveau glass appellations aroused renewed interest in the 1960s, first for Daum, Lalique, and Émile Gallé, and more in the 1980s with Schneider.
