Sugar Bowl with Lid,
Red Trim, Rose Design
A very interesting transferware sugar bowl with a shield and crown mark for K&G / Luneville / France, which I believe is Keller & Geurin Faience (majolica). I have not been able to find a date for this mark (vintage, but not antique, perhaps 1950s). Likewise, I haven't found the name for this lovely rose design (large rose on front, smaller rose on back). The shape of the sugar bowl is similar to Old Strausbourg, with a scalloped rim, ribbed sides, two handles decorated with red leaves, which is repeated on the lid in an embossed leaf shape around the red berry-like knob handle.
The sugar bowl measures 6 inches wide across the handles, 3-3/8 inches wide across the outer edge of the rim, and 2-5/8 inches wide across the foot. It sits 4-1/8 inches high at the rim and handle tops, and 5.75 inches high at the top of the lid's handle.
I believe the dark pinkish-red rose with green leaves is transferware printed, and the red trim appears hand-painted. The sugar bowl and lid are in very good condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing, or wear that I can see.
The bottom has a detailed mark for Luneville, with some small script writing in French at the bottom that I can't make out (ending with "marque deposee"). less
