This poster is an advertisement for the 1978 production of Norwegian writer Henrik Ibsen's play "Little Eyolf". In the story, Eyolf is the partially paralyzed nine year old son of Alfred and Rina, who sustained his injury as a baby. The play follows the family's dynamic - where Rita and Alfred have become distant due to guilt and jealousy - after a visit from a woman known as the "Rat-Wife", who claims she can rid the family of anything "gnawing" at their home by having the pests follow her out into the sea in a trance, where they drown. The family dismisses her, but does not notice when Eyolf proceeds to follow the Rat-Wife out to the water and to his own demise.
