Rare, hand-carved wooden cartel clock with a white glass dial, and steel hands. Inside the clock is a movement stamped on the internal plate by Samuel Marti & Cie.
Samuel Marti of Paris, Clockmaker. French clockmaker in the mid 1800’s from Paris at Le Pays de Montbeliard. He set up in business with Roux and Japy Freres in 1863 to market their clock movements
The Black Forest clockmakers bought products from other regions that they could not obtain in the Black Forest. A town with which trade was brisk was Montbéliard in France. From there, e.g. movements from the horlogerie Samuel Marti & Cie. The movement has been serviced and runs and strikes properly. Comes with the original key.
This particular example comes from the French city of Épinal, as indicated on the dial.

Important: The age of the piece is determined approximately. Any statements by me as to the authenticity, attribution, description, date, age, provenance, title, or condition of the work constitute my judgment and opinion only.
Antique clocks are not new clocks! A centenary clock may not be perfect, don't expect it to look like new. Please review carefully the photographs that are part of the description and which best represents the condition of the item. Color may vary slightly depending on screen settings and minor surface scratches.
NOTE: Although the clock is internally complete, in working order, and the movement has been serviced, the clock is not being sold as a time-measuring device, but as a unique antique artifact of unrivaled beauty as an interior decorative item. less
