A large, stupendous example of Goodich's early large format mixed media paintings. Incredible imagery and coloration with allusions to his "Primal Scene" Triptych, 1998, which is part of the permanent Installation Commission for Crossroads High School, Library - Santa Monica, CA. Also foreshadowing and premonitions of the early 2000's work "King, Queen, Alchemist," acrylic and cyanotype on canvas (collaboration with Nellie Appleby). This is an amazing original piece of art that should be preserved as part of our late twentieth century cultural heritage. A museum piece by the very talented Nikolia Goodich. About the artist:

Nikolas Soren Goodich
b. 1969, Los Angeles

Nikolas Soren Goodich has been an artist for his whole life. From drawing to painting to monumental luminous multi-sided plexiglass installations, Goodich knew that he needed art to survive in this world. After dedicating his life to art, he decided to take his love to the next level, going back to school and earning his BFA from VCU School of the Arts.

His work has been shown worldwide, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Berlin, but for him, the most important places for his work to live is in homes and communities. Since the 90s Goodich has made luminous art installations in his hometown of Los Angeles, in Hollywood, in Downtown LA, and in South Central LA. Having taught art to all ages and demographics, he understands how impactful art can be for lesser served communities and has begun work on the creation of a Luminous Radical Futurist Community Center for the South LA district. This ambitious project is to make his own luminous art as a form of architecture and as a community center, art made to serve the public in countless ways.

German film director Werner Herzog once said “We live in a society that has no adequate images anymore...” To produce and provide just such viscerally potent neological images is exactly Nikolas Soren Goodich’s singular artistic intent and the outcome of his unique and inventive practice.

When asked, Sigmar Polke once told one of his collectors that the title of the work they had purchased decades earlier is “Whatever you think.” By comparison Goodich’s titles give us further levels of definition to the layers of meanings inhabiting his spectral luminous light presences, that are then perceived by multiple senses all at once. Like Polke, Goodich’s work must be photographed to show the alchemical in the paintings in progress.
These works recall the Lens Paintings of Polke, in that the position in which the viewer engages the works causes diverse and variegated luminous variances in their appearance.
