An elegant hand-woven ikebana flower backet by Japanese bamboo artist Kosuge Kogetsu (1932-) circa 1970-80s. This basket is in the classic form derived from Chinese flower basket with a slender hexagonal body and a long handle. Constructed with madake for the thicker bands and exterior frames, young nemagari dake for the body and rattan for the knot ties, the artist used twill plating for the body and thousand-line as the exterior reinforced frame. The base signed "Kogetsu-saku" (made by Kogetsu).
Sometimes known as "Hounsai", the artist was born in 1932 and originally from Chubu Region and active in Hanyuda, Nigata Prefecture. He is the third son of Kosuge Chikudo (1895-1966) and studied under his father, who was a well-known bamboo artist.
