This Romare Bearden rre vintage 1981 offset lithograph print " Jamming at the Savoy " museum exhibition poster is a very special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The offset lithograph print poster is published by The Brooklyn Museum New York, printed in The United States in 1981 in an unnumbered limited edition by J.K. Fine Arts, on the occasion of the exhibition. It features an artwork image created by Bearden titled " Jamming at the Savoy ".
Romare Bearden ( 1911 - 1988 ) was an African American artist, author, and songwriter. Working in many different mediums, he began his career creating scenes of the American South. Later, working to express the humanity he felt was lacking in the world after his experience during World War II on the European front. In the 1950's Bearden studied art history an philosophy at The Sorbonne in Paris. His work focused on unity and cooperation within the African American community. He has been described as " The Nation's Foremost Collagist ".
He became a founding member of the Harlem based art group Spiral, formed to discuss the responsibility of the African American artist in The Civil Rights Movement. He had long supported young, emerging artists, and with his wife, they established The Bearden Foundation to continue this work, and to support young artists. In 1987 he was awarded The National Medal of the Arts. Artworks by Bearden are held in the collections of many prestigious museums including The Museum of Modern Art New York, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and The Albright Knox Art Gallery among many others.
The rare out of print museum exhibition poster print measures 31 5/8" W X 22" H. It is printed on premium heavyweight paper stock with vibrant ink colors.
