This Sonia Delaunay very rare vintage 1964 Mid Century Modernist lithograph print custom framed landmark Paris exhibition poster " Rythme Couleur " 1934, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print Modernist poster is published by The Musee Du Louvre Paris, printed in France in 1964 in an unnumbered limited edition by Mardyks Imp. Genese on the occasion of the exhibition. It features an artwork image originally created bY Delaunay in 1934 titled " Rythme Couleur ".
This is a rare opportunity for true Sonia Delaunay and Modernism fans and collectors both as this coveted image landmark exhibition poster is long out of print and very scarce to find.
Sonia Delaunay ( 1885 - 1979 ) Born Sarah Llintchna Stern, was a Jewish Ukrainian born French artist, who spent most of her working life in Paris. She was formally trained in Russia and Germany before moving to France and expanding her practice to include textile, fashion, and set design. She co-founded The Orphism Art Movement, known for its use of strong colors and geometric shapes, with her artist husband Robert Delaunay and others.
She was the first living artists to have a retrospective exhibition at The Louvre Museum in Paris in 1964, and in 1975 was named an officer of The French Legion of Honor. Delaunay's work in Modern design included the concepts of Geometric Abstraction, and the integration of furniture, fabrics, wall coverings, and clothing into her oeuvre of art practices.
In 1964, thanks to her donation of 117 works by herself and her husband Robert Delaunay, The Musee Du Louvre presented this landmark retrospective exhibition of the first living female artist ever exhibited at the prestigious world renown French museum. Her work would later be shown at many important institutions including The Musee D'Art Modern De Paris, The Musee Des Arts Decoratifs, The Centre Pompidou, The Tate Modern London, and The Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
The rare out of print framed Modernist exhibition poster print measures 16 1/4" W X 28 7/8" H X 1 1/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern recessed beveled detailed matte eggshell finish black wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent condition. The poster print is in excellent clean vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and very light minor surface wear. it is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed.
