Iconic pair of table or bedside lamps made of Murano opaline glass; each lamp is made of a single piece of blown glass with gray stripes that spiral across the body of the object at regular, alternating intervals; the classic mushroom shape reports soft, rounded lines; a lamp holder is attached to the bottom internally, and the top opening allows with absolute convenience to change the bulb inside; The ancient technique of "half filigree" was used to make the lamps; invented in Murano between the second and third decade of the 16th century, it is the simplest of the "filigree" processes; to perform this process, glass rods of equal size containing a single central strand of lactide or stained glass are placed on a metal plate and heated until they reach melting temperature; this causes the rods to fuse together, creating a single solid plate on which a "bolus" of opaline is rolled over, which is subsequently blown by the master, giving it a cylindrical shape, until all the rods are completely adhered together, at which point it begins to be molded by the master glassmaker into the desired shape. Because of their recognizable and unique shape and special construction workmanship we can attribute them with certainty to the famous Venini Company, which made them between 1970 and 1975 in its Murano furnace. The Venini company was founded back in 1921, from the minds of Paolo Venini, a lawyer, Giacomo Cappellin, a Venetian antiquarian, and Andrea Rioda, a glassmaker. The name of the early company was Vetri Soffiati Muranesi Cappellin-Venini & C. Since its founding, there have been numerous designers and artists who have collaborated, both nationally and internationally renowned. Venini is a constantly evolving workshop; the most obvious change is in artistic inspiration: in 1927 the artistic director changed and Zecchin was succeeded by Napoleone Martinuzzi,(1892-1977) one of the most influential personalities in the world of art glass. The Venini company collaborates over time with the most important designs of every era creating distinctive and authentic objects, Venini is authenticity. The authenticity that lives in the perfect balance of artisanal and Murano-made "savoir-faire," pursuit of excellence, bold design, originality, and skill in making contemporary and fascinating shared memories. Today, as 100 years ago, the transformation of ideas and insights of international artists and designers make Venini a cutting-edge Laboratory. A place where the passion for glass and the fascination of the Furnace have always enchanted everyone. Venini's products, like all products made of Murano glass, are unique because each workmanship is manual and therefore difficult to replicate in series; its exclusive creations with refined details and complex workmanship are rightly placed in the world of luxury objects, every aspect is cared for and refined down to the smallest detail. To this day, Venini is a primary company in the magical world of Murano glass. Our lamps offer all the uniqueness and beauty of the long and prestigious tradition of Murano glass, the harmony of the shapes and the expert workmanship of the master glassmakers make each lamp a unique, inimitable, and timeless piece, an element of absolute class that will decorate with simplicity and elegance any of your environments.
