Stunning large-scale Bay Area Figurative School two sided painting by Sally Kissinger Wilt (American, 1936-2004). One side has "Pan of Bolts" (style of Diebenkorn) and the other has a compelling abstract of a man walking on water and a swimmer in the bay, with a shark in the water theme. Joan Brown was a Bay Swimmer and this a abstract of Manuel Neri walking on water while Joan Brown swims amongst the sharks with blood in the water. An oil paint example of the artists signature is included for example; the painting is signed in marker on the side of the canvas "Wilt" "Pan of Bolts". Image, 53"H x 48" W x 2"D.
Sally studied and took classes at the same time as Joan Brown at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1963-1964. Signed and titled on edge "Wilt". Circa 1962-64, signed on verso "Wilt." Bay Area Figurative painting began with teachers at the California School of Fine Art. Leading artists were David Park, Richard Diebenkorn, Joan Brown, Manuel Neri, Nathan Oliviera, Paul Wonner and Elmer Bischoff. Unframed. Side on canvas edge "Wilt". Size: 53"H x 48"W Wilt, a California artist and writer, was raised in South Bend, Indiana. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with special honors in English from Indiana University. As a painter and printmaker, she studied in Austria with Oskar Kokoshka and then moved to San Francisco in 1962 to study with Richard Diebenkorn at the San Francisco Art Institute. She later taught art and nature classes for the Audubon Society and the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum. less
