Meticulously hand-painted with a slight celadon hue to the glaze. Motif depicts two mating orioles perched on a budding peony branch.. The reverse shows a single red peony on branch.
The oriole has a beautiful song and so is associated with joy. The bird symbolizes friendship when depicted in pictures. With peony and plum blossom it expresses a wish for joy to arrive in Spring.
Measures 4 3/8" (12cm) diameter and 2 3/8 (6cm) deep
No blemishes of any kind. There is a pinhead kiln bubble at the bottom of the bowl interior and some unevenness of the glaze around the foot rim in parts. Neither the kiln bubble or the uneven glaze is noticeable.
