This is an old (circa 1930’s) porcelain sake storage container.
Japanese refer to this type of barrel as a “Taru” … more This is an old (circa 1930’s) porcelain sake storage container.
Japanese refer to this type of barrel as a “Taru” or “daru”.
This container is a traditional shape where the porcelain mold mimics an even older style using straw ropes.
The Japanese writing on the front is the name of the sake distillery with smaller characters indicating famous or high quality sake.
The back includes name and address of the bar. On the underside is a mark of the porcelain manufacturer.

Dimensions: height 33 cm, diameter 27 cm.
In good condition. The handle is no longer present. less
