Today this counts as one of the most familiar and outstanding animal figures produced by Porzellan Manufacture Nymphenburg. Its elegant shape is realized by under glaze painting that was already developed to perfection at the beginning of the 20th century. In this technique, the paint is applied by brush or airbrush immediately after mild firing but before the porcelain is immersed in the glaze. Following firing, the resulting layers of color are transparent and possess the most attractive gradations. The wealth of colors in the Tavous peacock's display is reflected in the understated shades, which are typical for this method of painting.
