The West Bend Company named the Penguin Hot and Cold Server and in this Listing for Sale my Collection of 3 different designs. A rare Copper one with black Bakelite Knob and Handles.
A second one in chromed Steel with dark brown Bakelite Hardware and the third is as well chromed Steel with wooden Handles and the classic light brown turned Knob.
The pieces were designed to insulate both hot and cold foods. The penguin was the work of inventor Ralph N. Kircher. He patented the design in 1941 but wartime restrictions on aluminum meant the penguin didn’t really take off until after the war.
The West Bend Co. was founded in 1911 as the West Bend Aluminum Company, changing to just West Bend Company in 1961.
Even though the company started in aluminum, the metal is chromed Steel and Copper over Steel.
In vintage Condition with some indents and wear to the finish, inside like almost new condition.
Measures: 8.5 inches high including the knob.
Width: 10.5 Inches across the top from handle to handle.
Inside Diameter: 6 Inches.
