A 19th.c French Monumental Gilt Bronze and Gilt Iron Palace Sized Chandelier, circa 1890. Completely taken apart and cleaned by a metal specialist. It was mighty dirty when I acquired it. It took the restoration expert over a month to clean it properly. I am told this is a Mediteranean Revival style piece. There are over 100 light bulb sockets on this piece. I have taken them all out and they are boxed. They were the original sockets and I in no way wanted anyone to try and light the original cloth wire. This chandelier will require new wiring. I was going to have it done but I have decided to just lower the price and sell it cleaned and ready to be wired by the buyer. I will try and desribe this beauty. All gilt bronze elements with gilt iron scroll and what appears to be some solid copper elements as well.I will describe from the top down. Stunning iron flowers - very, very detailed. There is a "lantern" center complete with opening door. On the very top there is a gilt iron piece for hanging, very appropriate for a fixture this size and weight. Under that a bouquet of gilt iron flowers [each flower holds a bulb], under that scrolled bronze work. Regarding the socketry, when this piece is rewired it will take small sockets [candelabra] and regular size [edison] bulb, again I have many of the original sockets so the electrician could use as a guide if necessary
Under that a Royal Crown with rows and rows and rows of light bulb sockets. I can only imagine what this piece would look like lit, great for a Hotel, Estate.
Under the lantern which also takes many, many interior lights, a structure that holds 4 huge hand cast gilt bronze serpants. Coming out of each serpents mouth is an arm - 5 lights each mouth, solid huge, detailed serpants. This is truly one of a kind! less
