This lovely patinated spelter statue clock features a reclining woman with … more Vintage After Moreau Francois-Clement Gold Gild Spelter French Clock. This lovely patinated spelter statue clock features a reclining woman with a flowing shawl. A putti with a horn serenades her. The sculpture is entitled “Ondine” and signed F Moreau. Francois-Clement Moreau was a student at the cole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the workshops of James Pradier and Pierre-Charles Simart . He failed three times at the price of Rome . He began at the Salon of 1853 with a bust. It will be present again in 1857, 1859, 1861 and from 1863 to 1865 1 . In 1856, the professors of the Imperial and Special School of Fine Arts having instituted a great medal of emulation for painting and for sculpture, a second access it was granted to him for sculpture 2 . He was married and had a 5 year old child when he died on June 12, 1865, "After three days of suffering following a ruptured blood vessel". Several initiatives have been taken to help his wife and son et a subscription is organized, which the newspaper Le Courier Artistique announces on page one of the June 18 , 18653 , the Academie des Beaux decides to award widow Moreau the Lambert 4 prize. less
