Description: Chinese landscape scroll, freely drawn colored inks on heavy paper, mounted on a shimmering light and dark blue, silver, silk … more Chinese landscape scroll, freely drawn colored inks on heavy paper, mounted on a shimmering light and dark blue, silver, silk brocade in a dragon medallions, lattice pattern, signed, with a poem in caoshu script and numerous red and black seal marks in various sizes and shapes scattered about the image. With a black silk makio and kakio at the top and rosewood jikusaki at the bottom. The outer scroll covering is a light gold colored, raw silk. The image size is 24.75" wide x 50" high. Circa early 20th century, no later than mid century.

In the foreground a boater in a sampan rows to the rocky shore on the left, covered with budding cherry trees, bushes and grasses. The rocky shores on the right are covered with groves of budding cherry trees and sparse habitat, which lead to a small waterfall and a mountain hermitage on a small plateau, surrounded by budding cherry trees and bushes. Beyond the waterfall, clouds and mists envelop the numerous precipices that soar into the heavens and fade to distance in traditional Chinese aerial perspective. less
