Plaster ensemble, bust of Antinous of the Capitol on column, sculpted in a single block.
This work is taken from a marble statue representing Antinous, kept in the Capitol Museum in Rome.
Antinous is known as the favorite of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. Deified by the latter, this handsome young man will seal a tragic fate by drowning in the Nile in questionable circumstances.
The Swiss thinker, theologian, poet and writer Gaspard Lavater 1741-1801 described it like this: “[\.] It is the proportion, the harmony of all the traits: in a word, and the whole, and each part taken separately, present to us an unparalleled man, the inhabitant of a better world, a demi-god” (The art of knowing men through Physiognomy / Volume 7- ed.Depelafol).
This sculpture is adjoining and is supported on an Ionic column with fixed flutes, decorated with four foliage overhanging.
The base, molded with grooves, rests on a square base.
This set will bring charisma to your decoration, through the quality of its construction, its dimensions and its Greco-Roman style.
