Mid 20th C. a near pair of large Anglo-Japanese style table lamps with white pleated shades. The vase shaped lamps are mounted on an ebonised wood base. Both have domed brass inserts in the mount of the top of the vase to support the light light bulb socket, harp and shade. The bottle green ground serves to highlight lovely hand painted flora and fauna decoration in golds and browns tones.
At first glance these lamps to be a matching pair. Upon closer inspection you will notice that one is porcelain and the other has a turned wood body. Both have a Schumacher Furnishings label on the bulb socket, a division of F. Schumacher & Co. The Schumacher furniture department confirmed to me that they are of some age and have been long since discontinued. Unfortunately they did not have any additional information to provide. Each has a LEVITON turn wheel in line on off switch. These switches were manufactured between 1950 and 1959.
Looking closely at the lamps, it appears that the porcelain lamp was the original piece and the turned wood rendition was made to match. The painting on both is of almost exact composition but there are small differences in scale and colouration.
