A cute French 1925-1930 art deco night lamp in nickel plated solid brass and a shade by Schneider in colored glass. An orange-red color Charles Schneider called Tango.
E.Val was a silversmith with his shop at 218 rue du Feaubourg Saint-Martin. Initially the company used mainly Bohemian glasses. But 1925 onwards Val made a small line of little lamps using Schneider shades. Often sellers propose Val signed pieces as being a Daum branch (Verreries d'art Lorrain)... incorrect of course. See the picture from a page out of the book by Guiseppe Cappa, La Genie Verrier de l'Europe, page 428, about E.Val and some pics of old Val catalogs.
The base is signed with the usual Val signature. The Schneider shade is unsigned. The lamp is in excellent condition. The mounting is newly re-nickeled and patinated. No chips or cracks to the shade. It is 15,1 cm (5.95") high. And it comes newly wired with stylish cotton covered twisted wire and European E14 socket. For the USA I will place an American candelabra base socket and US two prong plug.
