With our highest compliments and with great praise, Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful 18th … more With our highest compliments and with great praise, Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful 18th century antique New Hampshire Chippendale chest of drawers. The chest is crafted from the absolute best grade of Birch with heavy figuring present in the grain. Most Birch has straight, uninspiring grain, but some trees have curls in the grain which is often referred to as Flame Birch. The arched grain on the drawer faces is even more unusual and found in fewer specimens. The top of the chest has a molded edge and slightly overhangs the case. The four drawers graduate in size and have incised edges. The scrolling patterns at the base are extraordinary and rare, & there are exposed dovetails on the sides of the front feet. The chest appears to have been painted at one point in its life, but that was thankfully corrected by a previous owner. The chest is in extremely good condition with our only notes being minimal surface wear & some light blue hues visible on the right side. The chest measures 38” wide x 19” deep x 33” tall. less
