They sit level and have a very smooth finish. Not a hair out of place- meaning, no splinters etc. they are in perfect condition.
A friend who knows a little about these things notes they are hand turned and dates from early 20th century. Possibly France or could or England or Italy or... lol. I'm not an expert but I can say they're Solid Wood - Walnut or Oak (to be updated when I'm 100% sure one way or other) and clearly hand turned. Weighing over 10 lbs each.

They don't come apart or screw together like cheap imitations. These are quality craftsmanship.

27.5" tall and 10.5 widest dimension at base. The metal top which holds candle-- which BTW metal is solid and sturdy-- measures about 9.5" across.

Use for a grand holiday table, charming to light stairs, for a foyer.. so many applications...

I searched online best I could and for similar solid wood quality and size-- well over 1k for pair and up to many $ thousands. In the case of newly made I see solid wood torcheres on other sites and so on for over $300 each and go north from there.. I'm not an expert and can't determine year made or place of origin but if you are, who knows what they might be worth..
Whatever the case, they're gorgeous and not easy to part with. less
