Back in the late 1800's many Chinese came over to work in the gold fields in SE Alaska...
I found this water pipe in an antique shop in Sitka on a recent trip...
looks like someone was taking an unofficial break in a back tunnel when the warning blasting alarm went off and the owner forgot to take his pipe out with him...this may be my fantasy but it would explain the condition of this piece
there are well worn etched designs on both side of the water container ...one side is a man...the other side is too well worn to decipher
the dark areas are now part of the original metal and do not clean up...
comes with original tweezers and pipe cleaner...
