The finest quality workmanship and attention to detail are evident from the sculptural artichokes on the top of the lid to its floral rim and elegant leaf handles down to the floral feet. Truly stunning.

Traditionally, Christofle uses brass for holloware and bronze for high relief elements such as feet, handles or sculptures. Its finish is silvered.

The lid and the base are signed with an assortment of hallmarks. The rim of the lid bears the name Christofle in block letters, the serial number 205616 and a cartouche with the "CC" balance scales over a bee. The balance stamp or silversmith's hallmark, was used by Maison Christofle from 1844 to 1862. The bottom of the feet have the same marks along with individual number stamps of 1, 5 & 3.

We have left the light tarnish on the tureen as found, allowing the purchaser to retain the naturally occurring oxidation as accent to its details or to polish to a high shine as desired.
