Traditional sensibility meets rustic charm in this antique Persian Mahal rug. The intricate Herati design and earthy hues woven into this piece work together creating relaxed, elevated feel such as American traditional or even rustic cabin. An allover pattern of Herati motifs covers the charcoal colored backdrop. The juxtaposing rust toned corner spandrels echo the Herati pattern within the field. The Classic Herati design, also known as the Mahi or fish pattern, is among the most widespread and well known of all Persian designs, consisting of a flower centered in a diamond accompanied by curving lanceolate leaves that resemble fish. Completing the composition is a botanical border enclosed with double guard borders.
