This hand-knotted wool vintage Turkish Sivas rug features an all-over Herati pattern spread across an abrashed cream field. The classic Herati pattern, also known as the Mahi or Fish pattern, is amongst the most widespread and well known of all oriental rug designs, consisting of a flower centered in a diamond accompanied by curving lanceolate leaves that resemble fish. In this particular Sivas rug, the pattern has a more curvilinear appearance, with delicate floral embellishments. The Shah Abbas style main border perfectly complements the central design, while rosette meander guard borders and floral listels add a touch of simplicity and balance to the composition. Unexpected mauve and coral accents bring richness to the otherwise neutral color palette.
