A stunning abstract composition in oil, painted by British artist Marian Hyland. The painting is housed in a handmade frame (by the artist) which has been crafted specifically for the painting that sits within it.
Marian’s practice centres around the relationships of space, shape and colour, created by the interplay between drawing, painting and collage.
In this piece, the process of mark making and layering, informed by observations of natural environmental processes (e.g. textures and marks left behind through decay/neglect, industrial architecture/landscapes and random associations of objects and surfaces) are important factors in the work.
Her paintings evolve intuitively to find rather than make the work. She continues to build up and simplify until the composition settles cohesively.
Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.
