This massive French Provencial Armoire features a gorgeous painted surface of provencial blue with cream accents. The paint appears to be original. Beveled mirrored panels, reed inserts on doors, original working key, 10 working drawers, one main wardrobe door (shelving has been added however can easily be disassembled) and two side doors with adjustable shelving plus an open shelf on both sides allows display of favorite treasures, perfumes, etc. The original molding and crown add just enough elegance to romanticize this piece without making it too feminine.
The wardrobe is easily disassembled for transport and we will provide easy to follow instructions on how to reassemble once this gorgeous armoire reaches your home. This beautiful armoire could be used in any part of your home...bedroom, bath, dining room and more. It would be wonderful reimagined in a kitchen in lieu of kitchen cabinetry.
A little information regaridng French Provenicial furnishings: The provincial residents, who were the main buyers of locally-produced furniture, had less buying power than the Parisian elite and were usually not as deeply in touch with the trends of the capital. The local craftsmen would sometimes go to Paris and become inspired by the current trends. But they often adopted only a few influences rather than replicating the style.
French provincial furniture was not an entirely uniform style, mostly because each region had its own traditions and different influences. Also, local craftsmen each had their own techniques. As a result, some pieces were massive and ornamented while others were light and rather simple.
However, most pieces shared some common characteristics. Makers usually kept functionality in mind, and furniture often had a strong construction. It was made to be durable and withstand daily use. Also, the pieces were usually well-finished and had delicate ornamentation elements.
UPDATE 7/25/23 new photos of inside. Adjustable shelves behind cane doors on each side. The center mirror door has adjustable shelves but also has a place for a rod (original to the piece - missing original rod) for hanging clothes if you prefer. Three drawers on each side topped with two smaller drawers in great condition. I can’t get a photo of the back but it is in good condition as well. This is a heavy, durable and functional piece it comes apart for easy transport and reassembly. less
