- Giant sized forty seven inches tall wooden thermometer made by the Hoehn Company Thermomter Makers, Chambers Street, NYC. constucted of … more Giant sized forty seven inches tall wooden thermometer made by the Hoehn Company Thermomter Makers, Chambers Street, NYC. constucted of hard wood with a rounded top and beveled edges, it adverrtises NYLIC-New York Life Insurance Co. wanting Bright Young Men- Permanent Pay. Measuring Blood Heat, Summer Heat,Tempe Rate, Freezing and Zero, the glass thermometer is in tact- the mercury has long been evaporated. Some fading of the black stamped on letters and numbers but over-all in great condition with the original gold milk paint. The company was founded in 1841 and was on Broadway in the 1890s. It still exits today in Manhatten. A wonderful piece of New York history. less
