Jean Gauthier (EJG EZAN)
A stunning pair of 1930-1935 French art deco chandeliers in nickel plated solid brass or bronze. … more Jean Gauthier (EJG EZAN)
A stunning pair of 1930-1935 French art deco chandeliers in nickel plated solid brass or bronze. They hold large opalescent cups in thick opalescent glass made by EJG the company of Jean Gauthier in its Ezan factories north from Paris. Opalescent moulded-pressed semi-crystal shades became in fashion in the mid 30s. With beautiful tones of milky blue or warm amber depending whether light falls on or shines through the glass. The model shades of this chandelier do not exist signed. Petitot, as well as other manufacturers of high quality art deco lighting, made chandeliers using these shades. The chandeliers on offer show the foundry marks HR on the inside of the arms. I was not able to find out which lighting firm used these HR initials.
The chandeliers are in excellent condition. The mountings have been replated. The fixtures have a height of 77 cm (30,32") and are 70 cm wide (27,56"). The shades have a diameter of 21 cm. They are thick and heavy. 1,17 kilo per shade. The chandeliers are rewired. And hold six American candelabra base sockets each.
The chandeliers will be shipped in several parcels. To make them fit the maximum size box regular post allows I must partially demount the fixtures. I will add a clear manual how to reassemble the mountings again.
Jean Gauthier had his first workshop at 12-14 rue Jean Robert in Paris and later expended with factories in the town of Ezanville. In the early days just after the first world war Gauthier made cameo shades that were sometimes signed Gauthier. The plants in Ezanville were opened for the production of art deco glassware in moulded-pressed glass. Many art deco models are unsigned. Some are signed EJG for Etablissements Jean Gauthier. Others are signed J.Robert pseudonym for J.Gauthier based on the street name of the first workshop. In the 30s Gauthier started a line of shades done in opalescent semi-crystal, mainly cups. Some models are unsigned. Others are signed EZAN France, signature for Gauthier based on the city of the second plant.
FREE SHIPPING OFFERED.
