French painter Gilbert Artaud was born in 1934. He worked as a textile designer in Parisian Haute Couture for many years while painting during his free time. He was inspired by the Impressionists and his work is clearly influenced by them. He vacationed in the Dombes region in southeastern France and it is here where he produced many of his best paintings, watercolors and lithographs. He is known primarily as a sensitive colorist and his still life paintings, done in a more expressionist style, stand out.
