This Ben Shahn " Paintings " rare vintage 1963 first edition heliogravure print hand signed collector's Mid Century Modern hardcover art book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover art book with natural cream linen covered boards, embossed cover and spine titles, and dust jacket is published in 1963 by George Braziller Inc. New York. Printed in heliogravure by Draeger Freres, Paris France, and in letterpress by The Haddon Craftsmen, Scranton Pa. It features a monograph survey of the artworks of the artist Ben Shahn, with accompanied compelling text authored by James Thrall Soby.

Ben Shahn ( 1898 - 1969 ) was a jewish Lithuanian born American Modernist artist. He is best known for his works of Social Realism, his left-wing political views, and his series of famous lectures. Shahn's desire to create narrative art that focuses on social and political justice have come to exemplify Social Realism and the art of social consciousness.
The artworks have a deep commitment to Humanism. Despite his rise in fame and prestige, Shahn remained committed to his audience and subject matter, he stood amongst the crowd and fought the same fight as they did. The style of Ben Shahn is unrivaled among American artist for its marked individuality and ability to capture the human experience.
This elegant volume presents a beautiful selection of the artist's paintings reproduced in fine art heliogravure printing process, introduced with a brilliant text by James Thrall Soby, and completed with an artist chronology and bibliography.
The rare out of print 1st edition Mid Century Modern hardcover art book measures 8 3/4" W X 11 1/4" H X 7/8" D, with 144 pages. It features 96 heliogravure print illustrations including 24 in color.
