Iconic and straightforward French table lamp; the top is made of fine opaline glass in the shape of an inverted bell, the base is made of wood and brass; this model owes its name and origin to the Parisian lamp manufacturer "Mazda," who in the 1920s, came up with twin designs of a table lamp and a floor lamp; the two models were distinguished by their essential practicality and elegant, refined silhouette and soon became two iconic objects in the field of lighting. Our lamp was produced in France between 1930 and 1935 by "Mazda Lamp." Mazda is a brand created in 1909 in the United States within General Electric and in addition to incandescent light bulbs, had a prolific production of lighting and furniture items of the highest quality; the brand was granted and employed in France from 1921. It was chosen that name because of its association with the deity Ahura Mazda, the chief god of Zoroastrianism whose name of Avestan origin means the light of wisdom (Ahura= light; Mazda= wisdom). The original "Mazda Lamp" style table lamps captivate with their 1930s Parisian simple and functional Art Deco design. When lit, with this type of opaline glass with a milk-white color, the lamp takes on an even more pronounced elegance by diffusing a soft glow. Opaline is slightly translucent glass, opacified by means of sodium and calcium phosphates and chlorides with the addition of tin oxides and talc, resulting in various shades of colors from pastel to milky white; the first opaline glass ornaments were made in Murano in the 16th century, the technique did not remain secret and was copied in Germany and France and had its heyday from 1820 to 1870; for lighting, opaline glass was a huge success in the early 20th century. Our lamp is of fairly large proportions, but overall it is understated, luxurious, and refined; with its simple structure and clean, light architectural lines, it is a prestigious and unique, elegant, and modern piece of furniture that can be adapted to any room in your home. For those with a nostalgic soul, the introduction of elements with a retro flavor can be the perfect solution; in addition to visually warming the space, it allows the rooms of the house to shine with a timeless light. Measures diameter cm.25, height cm.33. The lamp is in excellent condition. The electrical system has been completely redone with US wiring; voltage compatibility in other states should always be checked by an electrician before use. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects. less
