This Sol LeWitt rare vintage 1978 first edition lithograph print Museum of Modern Art exhibition art book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover art book with charcoal linen covered boards, silver tone foil embossed spine titles and dust jacket is published by The Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1978 on the occasion of the exhibition, color printed by Easton Press, New Haven, Conn., black and white printed by Halliday Lithograph Corp., West Hanover, Mass., bound by Sendor Bindery, New York N.Y. It features a monograph survey of the Modernist artworks of Sol LeWitt, edited and with an introduction by Alicia Legg, Essays by Lucy Lippard, Robert Rosenblum, and Bernice Rose.
Solomon " Sol " LeWitt ( 1928 - 2007 ) was an American artist of a Russian Jewish background, linked to various movements including Conceptual Art and Minimalism. LeWitt came to fame in the late 1960's with his " Wall Drawings " and " Structures " but was prolific in a wide range of mediums including drawing, printmaking, photography, painting, installation, and artist's books. Artworks by LeWitt have been the subject of hundreds of solo exhibitions in many of the most prestigious museums and galleries around the world since 1965.
The work of Sol LeWitt is brilliantly set forth in this comprehensive monograph that traces his career from 1962 to 1977. This definitive book is a work by LeWitt as as about him. He has designed this volume following his own modular principles and has selected the illustrations. In addition, the book features selections from his writings, including his influential articles on Conceptual Art. The 274 illustrations provide a fascinating document of the major themes in this creative pioneer's work.
