Todd Freeman is an artist based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His work draws from a deep curiosity for the natural world, and pulls subjects from science, history, and folklore. He primarily makes copper etchings and drawings, creating small run, hand-pulled print editions and original works on paper.
This is a fine art print of one of four delicate renderings from a series which catalogs frost formations that can be found at Wilderness, a state park at the Northern tip of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.
While based upon real meteorological phenomenon, these drawings are meant to serve as studies in natural pattern and repetition rather than direct documentation. They were created without pre-planned shapes, allowing the flow of hatch marks and lines to direct the final form and composition. The pattern of this Ice Sheet drawing was based on the formation that freezing rain produces over flat surfaces. less
