Description: I have owned this for 35 years and this is the first time I am offering it for sale, I … more I have owned this for 35 years and this is the first time I am offering it for sale, I have never seen another one so I know this is unique piece.
This lamp is the God Daruma. Japanese legends say that his arms and legs shriveled up and fell off during a nine year meditation marathon. He also plucked off his eyelids because he was angry because he once fell asleep during meditation. The eyelids fell to the ground and sprouted into China’s first Green Tea plants. Green tea was used to keep people alert during meditation.
This Bronze Daruma is late 19th Century or very early 20th Century. I think it was a Hibachi before being converted into a lamp about 40 years ago. The base is a Japanese style wood stand.
The condition is very good with a dark rich patina. There is one dent on the bottom of the right side, pictured. Lamp has been rewired.
The base Measures approximately 7 1/2" x 8", 13 1/2" to top of the Bronze Hibachi and 26 1/2" tall to the shade less
